About O2 Nano Mask
The O2 Nano Mask company (O2 Nano Brands Inc.) is a US company located in San Francisco, CA.
The company makes a washable mask with a replaceable filer made of a nano fiber material. According to the company website…” The O2 Nano Mask uses an innovative triple-layer nanofiltration system with nanofiber membranes comprised of recyclable plastic fibers. The uniquely fine fibers are constructed in a non-woven pattern to create extremely small pores, enabling the wearer to breathe freely while offering PM2.5 protection.”
Each mask comes with 3 filters and additional filters can be purchased at a price of $3 to $4 depending on the quantity ordered (pricing as of July 29, 2020).
O2 Nano Mask Filtering Efficiency
The company website states…” Each O2 Nano Mask filter can last up to 60 hours of total use in a moderate AQI environment.”
What is an AQI Enviornment?
According to the EPA government website…” The AQI focuses on health effects you may experience within a few hours or days after breathing unhealthy air. The AQI is calculated for four major air pollutants regulated by the Clean Air Act: ground- level ozone, particle pollution, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide.”
What About Protection From Viruses?
So, as far as we can decipher you can use an O2 Nano Mask up to 60 hours in an environment of ‘moderate’ pollution. But not in situations of heavy pollution and certainly not in situations were airborne viruses are present.
Again, we are NOT scientists, microbiologists or medical experts but it would seem in an environment were airborne viruses could be present, the O2 Nano Mask filters should certainly NOT be used more than once and they are probably inadequate to even use one time in such an environment . And, the filters are not washable. This writer has purchased and has used the O2 Nano Mask and I’ve replaced the filter after each use (that use being primarily grocery stores) but after reading in more detail about the filtration specs, this mask seems inadequate for protection during the pandemic. That being said, the O2 Nano Mask is likely better than that which most folks are using. But given our current situation in the pandemic, why not just go with the best you can find.
The filtering efficiency of the O2 Nano Mask is good to filter out particle sizes up to PM 2.5. So, the mask sounds good for smog but not so good for viruses. Further, the adjustable nose clip on the mask is of questionable quality.
O2 Nano Mask are Not Recommended
Because of the limited filtering efficiency (99% for particles up to PM2.5) and the cost of replacement filters, the O2 Nano Mask is not recommended.
